Background: The Back-to-school Bash informs AISD parents and students about district and community resources available to families for a safe and successful start to the new school year. This is an initiative of the Department of Communications and Community Engagement. The City of Austin encourages parents and children to consider getting to school via an active form of transportation. “The City is pleased to partner with AISD in promoting children’s health and safety. As we gear up for the new school year, we encourage parents and children to be active and consider getting to school by walking or biking, which offer many documented benefits, said council member Laura Morrison. Benefits include reducing obesity and improving health outcomes, increasing tests scores, decreasing traffic congestion, and improving air quality.
